Ontime Driving School in Milton keynes
Before you start. What we get asked the most Ontime driving school only use experienced, fully qualified instructors, who have an extensive knowledge of teaching all age groups and abilities. They come from mainly an education based background and have all been police checked and personally vetted for their suitability. We do not use automatic cars. Before your lessons You need to get a Provisional Licence before you can drive a car on the road. If you have an old style paper licence you also need to sign it (photocard licences already include your signature). You can get an application form and explanatory notes from most Post Offices. Read the application form carefully and make sure that you comply with the requirements for getting photos signed by an appropriate person.
The licence usually takes just a week or two to arrive. It consists of two parts - the photocard and the paper counterpart. Any time you need to produce your driving licence you must produce BOTH PARTS.
If you have an International Driving Permit from overseas which lasts for one year, you will still need to get a UK provisional licence before you can take your test. Note that an International Permit only allows you to drive while you are a vistor to this country. If you have a permanent address in this country you may not normally be considered to be a vistor. How many driving lessons will I need? Everyone is different and will need a different number of lessons. Other relevant factors may include whether you’ve ridden a motorbike and whether you will get practice in your own car in addition to your lessons. Most Instructors agree that for most people it is between 40 & 60 1 hour lessons. Remember, it’s not just being able to control the car, but also about gaining experience in different situations. Also there is a basic syllabus of lessons that all Instructors teach that needs to be fully covered by everyone. It is unrealistic to expect to cover the syllabus in less than 20 lessons. Remember, Driving Instructors are expected to teach their pupils to be good drivers, not just to be able to pass the test. The DSA are concerned that many candidates have not had enough lessons before taking the test. Their statistics show that the average is 45 lessons + lots of private practice.
Do I have to have an Instructor? At present the answer is no. However, Driving Instructors are highly qualified and it is unlikely that you will pass without professional help from an Instructor. Do all Instructors teach the same things? All Instructors know that there is a basic syllabus that needs to be covered. However, Instructors do have considerable freedom to teach people in the way that they find works the best. Be assured however, that Instructors are regularly check-tested by the DSA to ensure that their Instruction is up to scratch. How much do lessons cost? Cheap driving lessons? Prices of lessons vary considerably. The length of lesson (the length of lesson can vary between 45 minutes and a full hour) and the area can have an effect. It’s unlikely you can get lessons for less than £16, and some schools charge up to £28. Do remember, the cheapest may not be the best. It’s worth asking - if a Driving School has cheap driving lessons, why are they so cheap? Expect to get what you pay for. £20 for an hour is in fact very cheap when you consider the Instructor's overheads. The DIA calculate that to earn the national average wage an Instructor should be charging £26. Are intensive driving courses any good? Certainly they work for some people but for others an intensive driving course (or crash course) is too intense! It will depend very much on the individual. But remember it's not a short cut. You still have to learn the same amount. When can i start and how many lessons should i have a week? When you can start depends on your availability. It is worth remembering that evenings and saturday lessons are always the most popular and as such are normally block booked in advance by pupils. The only way to be fair to everyone is to work on a 1st come 1st served basis unless prior payment is received. Ontime lessons start at 9am through till 4pm and then from 6pm till 830pm. Our lessons can be either 1 hour or 2 .Saturday lessons start at 1030am and stop at 830pm.
